Fawn-colored half-chagrin with bands, gilt fillets, spine with a wide central rib, decorated with medallions and a mosaic-style profile face, gilt edges on marbled paper, cover and spine preserved, slipcase (Alvarez de Toledo).
An edition “completely revised and partly original,” constituting the definitive edition of the text.
It is illustrated with 52 compositions within the text and 6 etchings outside the text, by Alexandre IACOVLEFF (1887–1938), who was well acquainted with Africa, having participated in the Citroën Central Africa expedition in 1924–1925.
One of the first 15 copies printed on antique Japanese paper, this one being one of five non-commercial copies specially printed for René Maran (No. III).
A fine copy.
Spine slightly faded and a few stains on the covers. One edge of the slipcase is damaged.
