[Claude de Lorraine, 1st Duke of GUISE (1496–1550)]. Letter - Lot 474
[Claude de Lorraine, 1st Duke of GUISE (1496–1550)]. Letter addressed to him by the jurist Aisnot, Melun, June 7 [circa 1545]; 3 folio pages, addressed “To His Lordship.” A long and intriguing letter concerning, in part, a lawsuit between Madame de Longueville (born Marie de Lorraine) and the Duchess of Nemours. The duchess is staying at the Château de Fontainebleau with her son. The King (François I) “was very pleased to see this young prince and told him that he resembled his uncle, Duke Claude […] the following day, which was last Thursday, he had one of the four quarters of the crown brought to him at the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, in the presence of the King of Navarre, Monsieur de Saint-Pol, and the Prince of Nerffe […] I discussed this matter with His Lordship the Count of Aumalle, your son [François, future Duke of Guise] in the presence of Monsieur de Sainte Croix, who was at the said Fontainebleau expecting to find you there, and I found the said Count in a very favorable frame of mind to discuss this matter anywhere”… Etc.
