André MORELLET (1727–1819). L.A.S., August 30, 1817, to the Chevalier de Langeac in Paris; 2 pages, in-8 format, addressed (portrait enclosed).
He thanks him belatedly, a delay due “to the weakness of my eyes and that of my mind. Even a letter of just a few lines is a labor for me. I am reduced to telling you only very briefly what I would very much like to explain at length, for your work is full of beauty and the mention you make of me assures me that ‘non omnis moriar’”… [This refers to the book *Le Bonheur que procure l’étude* (The Happiness Derived from Study), by Chancellor de L’Hopital (Michaud, 1817); Morellet is described therein as “a generous old man.”]
