Pair of round porcelain plates with so-called “Pompadour” de - Lot 71
Pair of round porcelain plates with so-called “Pompadour” decoration, China, East India Company, Qianlong period, 18th century With polychrome decoration in “Famille Rose” glazes. Both plates feature an asymmetrical central floral composition organized around a large, fully bloomed coral-red flower with a green and yellow center, accompanied by flowering stems, small secondary flowers, foliage, and a branch bearing a garland of suspended polychrome fruits. The rim is adorned with a compartmentalized rocaille design alternating with flowers and plant motifs. It features four main cartouches with undulating outlines, arranged at regular intervals, each containing either an eagle depicted in profile or a fish, with these motifs alternating around the perimeter. These medallions are framed by foliage and scrollwork and painted in blue, turquoise, green, purple, and coral red, complemented by peony flowers and scattered buds. The first plate is characterized by a predominance of blue, with the rocaille scrolls and several elements of the marli design rendered primarily in deep blue and turquoise, while the second features a predominance of coral red, this color being used more extensively in the rocaille motifs and peripheral ornaments. Diameter: 28.5 cm Chips and cracks along the rim, missing enamel, and restorations on one piece.
