ÉLISABETH DE FRANCE, known as MADAME ÉLISABETH (1761-1794) s - Lot 268
ÉLISABETH DE FRANCE, known as MADAME ÉLISABETH (1761-1794) sister of Louis XVI. L.A., July 15, 1789 to her friend Madame de Bombelles; 1 1/2 pages in-8, addressed with remnants of black wax seal (engraved portrait enclosed). The day after the storming of the Bastille. "It would be very sad for me to leave without you, I don't know if the King will leave Versailles [...] God knows the best course to take, we have a pious man at the head of the council, perhaps he will enlighten me". She advises her friend to eat well so as not to disturb her milk, and makes the sacrifice of not seeing her, whatever the cost to her heart. "I hope that the evil is not as great as one imagines, what makes me believe it is the calm of Versailles. It was not very sure yesterday that Mr de Launay was hanged, another one had been taken for him during the day"... 2 lines have been crossed out before the conclusion: "Adieu mon cœur je vous embrasse aussi tendrement que je vous aime".
