Paul PELLISSON-FONTANIER (1624-1693). 6 L.A.S., 1 L.A. and 4 - Lot 126
Paul PELLISSON-FONTANIER (1624-1693). 6 L.A.S., 1 L.A. and 4 L.S., Saint-Germain, Paris, Versailles and Fontainebleau 1666-1685, to Scipion du Puy, sieur de Scalibert-Roquetaillade; 20pages in-8, one address.
Pleasant correspondence between two Protestant converts and lovers of poetry. Pellisson thanks Scalibert for his gifts and assures him "that one cannot read nor receive your gallant works with more pleasure, that I have admired everywhere your ease your neatness your wit and in two places celuy de vos heroïne"; he envies him living in a remote province, as he has "neither court to do, nor bad papers to unravel, nor bad fortune to overcome, nor any other care than celuy des bonnes et des belles choses" (October 23, 1666). Pellisson [who abjured Protestantism on October 8, 1670] learned of "your conversion, which I neither wished to blaspheme against my conscience, nor to approve at the expense of the secrecy I had imposed. God be praised, Monsieur, who by different ways has led us with infinite and equal goodness to the same infinite and priceless good. This precious pearl deserves to have everything else devoted to it. I have not lost a single one of my friends, I would have given them all wholeheartedly for her" (February 14, 1671). Scalibert requests a number of services for himself, his family or his friends, but Pellisson is not always able to provide them and regrets not being more useful to him: "I complain more than you do about the difficulty of serving everyone, and especially those who are absent, in the kind of business that could accomodate you" (October 14, 1673)... Etc.
Attached is a L.A.S. from Scalibert-Roquetaillade to l'abbé de Ferrier (2pages in-4), about his quarrels with M. Rivière, who has kept a sum of money from his nephew that should be returned to him...
