NANI (Giambattista). Historia della republica Veneta. Venice: Combi, La Nou, 1662. - In-4, soft parchment overlay, smooth spine (contemporary binding). Rare first edition of this work, considered one of the first detailed and chronological histories of Venice. It is the most important work by the Venetian historian Giambattista Nani (1616-1678), who was Venetian ambassador to France from 1643 to 1668. This edition covers the history of Venice from its origins to 1644. The work was reprinted several times, both during the author's lifetime and posthumously, each time enlarged. It is one of the most important sources for historians of this city. A fine copy in contemporary binding. Tears at top of spine and at one nerve, first white endpaper renewed. First quire partly disbound.
