Henri Manuel (1874-1947) - Lot 73
Henri Manuel (1874-1947) Mortigny costume party, probably around Le Diamant vert (a large-scale play in five acts and seven tableaux), c. 1910. Twelve (12) vintage silver prints, mounted on card, signed in the negatives. Studio stamp on lower left of mounts. Medium format: 15 x 22 cm The Cercle des Mortigny was founded in 1908 after the May 10 performance at Colonel d'Osnobischine's of Le Secret des Morligny ou De l'Honneur à la Honte et vice versa, a burlesque drama imagined by Marcel Bain. It features Parisian artists, Russian highnesses and Paul Poiret. The most celebrated and provocative couturier of the 1910s, Paul Poiret was also the organizer of legendary costume balls - including the famous "1002e nuit" in 1911. Guests at this costume party included Roger Boutet de Monvel, Mary de Buck, Jean-Bernard Eschmann, Count d'Osnobichine, Paul Poiret, Bernard Boutet de Monvel, Jean-Louis Forain, Maxime Dethomas, Sylviac, Françoise Rosay's mother and Guy-Pierre Fauconnet.
