Pierre MERKLEN (1852-1906) physician. Partially autograph manuscript, [Leçons sur les troubles fonctionnels du cœur, 1908]; large small in-4 volume with over 500 pages, mostly in-4, mounted on tabs, bound in half-brown basane (worn binding to be redone, spine detached and missing). Important manuscript of his lessons in cardiac pathology, which he gave from 1889 onwards at Hôpital Saint-Antoine, and which were published after his death by his disciple Jean Heitz: Leçons sur les troubles fonctionnels du cœur (insuffisance cardiaque, asystolie) (Masson, 1908). This is the manuscript used for printing, based on Merklen's autograph manuscripts and notes, supplemented and corrected by manuscripts cleaned up by his assistant, with the insertion of numerous clippings from books and articles. The work comprises 23 lessons, each opening with a detailed summary: I "Heart Failure and Asystole. Their general causes"; II "Determination of the functional capacity of the heart in a young subject with vascular lesions"; III "Heart failure and forced heart in a subject with long-compensated mitral insufficiency"; IV and V "Mitral hyposystole. Son traitement hygiénique, diététique, médicamenteux et balnéomécanique"; VI "Mitral disease and coupled rhythm"; VII "De l'insuffisance cardiaque dans l'insuffisance aortique"; VIII "Les conséquences fonctionnelles du rétrécissement de l'orifice aortique"; etc. up to lesson XXIII "De l'angine de poitrine associée à l'asthme cardiaque ou l'œdème pulmonaire aigu".
