JACQUES POUCHAIN (1927-2015) - DIEULEFIT WORKSHOP - Lot 189
JACQUES POUCHAIN (1927-2015) - DIEULEFIT WORKSHOP Brick vase. Glazed stoneware. A small chip and lack towards the base, restored. Signed twice with the artist's monogram. Height: 23cm - Length: 25cm JACQUES POUCHAIN (1927-2015) Jacques Pouchain first trained in architecture before turning to abstract art, then to ceramics. He opened his own workshop in Dieulefit in the late 1940s. His work, composed of both utilitarian and artistic pieces, bears witness to a certain modernity and is characterized by engraved decorations and brown and black glazes, inspired by the natural world and animals. In the 1960s, he explored more abstract forms and architectural volumes. His work evolves towards almost surrealistic forms, combining elegant deformation and pure modelling.
