JEAN COCTEAU (1889-1963) & ATELIER MADELINE-JOLLY - PHILIPPE MADELINE (1914-2002) & MARIE-MADELEINE JOLLY (1914-1992)
Jean Cocteau, a jack-of-all-trades, Dada, then in the surrealist vein, is celebrated for his poetry; nevertheless, his written work is inseparable from his graphic work and ceramics. His boundless imagination gave rise to drawings, theater sets, lithographs and etchings, as well as widely recognized and recognizable works in clay. In 1957, his decisive meeting with Marie-Madeleine Jolly and Philippe Madeline marked the start of a flourishing collaboration. It was in their Villefranche-sur-Mer studio that the poet created over 300 ceramics and jewelry pieces, imagining "poem-objects" until his death in 1963.
