Marguerite Carau-Ischi (1928-2008) Marguerite Carau-Ischi was a Swiss-born artist who established herself as an essential figure in post-war textile design. Initially trained as a painter, she contributed to the revival of tapestry and textile art in the 1960s and 1970s. Very early on, the artist transposed her plastic research into the textile medium - developing abstract wall tapestries, in which materials and contrasts assert themselves. Working mainly with natural fibers, her textile language revolves around the textures and shades of color of the materials she uses - such as sisal, whose thickness and tonalities she varies. Her creations evoke questions of abstract art, as well as tribal art. Her participation in several editions of the Biennale internationale de la tapisserie de Lausanne testifies to her recognition on the European avant-garde textile scene.
