Man attacked by dragons, Iran qâjâr, late 19th - early 20th - Lot 125
Man attacked by dragons, Iran qâjâr, late 19th - early 20th century, after an original by Mo'in Mosavver Gouache, ink and gold on paper depicting a man armed with a dagger being attacked by a yellow dragon wrapped around his body and biting him on the left shoulder, a second blue dragon hidden behind a hill. Mounted on an album page with brick and green borders on card stock painted in gold on a duck blue background with an animal décor of monkeys in trees, ducks in a pond and birds in flight. Size of drawing: 16.7 x 10.4 cm; page: 32.2 x 23.5 cm Small accidents in the green border, minor wear. This drawing is based on a work by the great Safavid artist Mo'in Mosavver in the British Museum, London, inventory no. 1949,0709,0.11. The suggested iconography for the subject is a scene from the epic poem Khavaran-nameh, in which the hero Malik attacks seven dragons.
