Henri de PRUSSE (1726-1802), Prussian general and statesman, - Lot 474
Henri de PRUSSE (1726-1802), Prussian general and statesman, brother of Frederick the Great. L.A. (minute with corrections), Berlin November 14 [after 1792], to a general; 4pages in-4; in French.
Interesting letter on the Netherlands and the House of Orange. He announces the dispatch of a "memorandum which I have just sent to Madrid, not to ask for anything, but to remind you that I am at the service, and ready to act if I am needed. I'm coming now to the conversation I had with you last night, my dear General, and to put you in a better position to make use of it. I'm going to repeat to you in writing what I think. The more I consider the position of the House of Orange in Holland to be critical in the highest degree, and the more I feel the extreme desire to contribute to maintaining it in its rights, and to saving Holland from total ruin [......] the way in which I bound myself to the King's opinion by the letter I had the honor of delivering to His Majesty, while passing through Potsdam in 1792 and the letter I had the honor of writing to him in Coblence, when he deigned to lend me two hundred thousand ecus for the princes, puts me in the position of not being able to claim any of my states and any indemnity that he may dictate".
