Gustave Olivier LANNES, comte de Montebello (1804-1875) son of the marshal of the Empire, aide-de-camp to Napoleon III and general. L.A.S., Paris June 5, 1862, to General Durrieu; 1 page and a quarter in-8. He personally delivered his letter to the Emperor "to whom I told the reasons for your letter". He had it placed on his desk "saying very laconically: 'It's good, I know what it is. - Let's hope he will do as you wish". Lannes then writes that he is preparing to leave for Rome: "I am very happy, and as I hope to always have a sense of duty, I hope to get out of a position that many people believe to be more difficult than it really is"...
