Attributed to Alberto PULLICINO (circa 1719-1765) - Lot 41
Attributed to Alberto PULLICINO (circa 1719-1765) View of Malta taken in front of the fort of Manoël; Malta, view of the large port taken from Valletta Pair of canvases 42.3 x 116.5 cm Old restorations The first painting shows Fort Manoël, an imposing fortification located on the island of Manoël, in the center of Malta's Grand Port, opposite Valletta. The ramparts and angular bastions of the fortified capital overlooking the sea can be seen in the distance. The Palais des Grands Maîtres appears in the center of the city, and the Tour Saint-Philippe, at the end of the pier, marks the entrance to the harbor, where several ships are already moored. A similar composition exists in the Louvre. The panoramic view in the second painting offers a perspective of Malta's Grand Harbour from Valletta, opening onto the fortified towns of Vittoriosa and Senglea. In the foreground, numerous boats enliven the harbor, dominated by Fort Saint-Ange and framed by two stone buildings. A similar composition also exists in the Louvre, on deposit at the Musée National de la Marine.
