Étienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904) Study of air movements, 1901. 5 cm normal plane, fourth and final version of the smoke machine, equipped with 57 channels. Silver print (c. 1910), annotated on verso. 9 x 5 cm Bibliography : Point de vue. Images du monde, March 25, 1954, p. 21. To carry out his experiments on aerodynamics, Étienne-Jules Marey used four different machines producing parallel streams of smoke, along which objects of various shapes were placed. This contact print - comparable to those mounted in plates of 30 and preserved in the collections of the Beaune museums - was used for the photoengraving of an article on chronophotography published in the magazine Point de Vue. Images du Monde in March 1954.
