Etched title-frontispiece by Jules-Adolphe Chauvet, printed on chine. A licentious novel originally printed in 1781, whose attribution to the Comte de Mirabeau, approved by Jules Gay, was disputed by Antoine-Alexandre Barbier and Paul Lacroix, known as le Bibliophile Jacob, who even suggests in the introductory note to the present edition that it should rather be attributed to Mirabeau's brother, the Vicomte André-Boniface-Louis Riqueti de Mirabeau.
