Édith PIAF. 2 L.A.S. "Édith", August-September 1955, to Pier - Lot 144
Édith PIAF. 2 L.A.S. "Édith", August-September 1955, to Pierre Chaub (composer and conductor), Piccadilly Theatre, London; 2 pages in-4 each, 1st on Château Marmont letterhead, envelope for 2nd. Touring the U.S.A., while Jacques Pills plays Eric Maschwitz's musical Romance in Candlelight in London (Piccadilly Theatre, September 15, 1955). Hollywood August 4. Her second letter worries her: "Above all, tell me everything, you know how much I trust you and how happy I am to know you are close to Jacques [Pills]! I, too, can't wait for him to start and get some rest. Please try to persuade him to go and see a doctor and take more X-rays, [...] the slightest deviation could be serious for Jacques"... She demands all the details and the whole truth; she herself is detained in Hollywood by her business: "I want to take advantage of this to make sure I've got my back! [...] Don't mind if my good man is a little nervous, you know him, he makes such a fuss about everything! She counts on Pierre to give details of the premiere, "because with bonhomme I wouldn't have much!"... New York September 22. "I've just had a phone call from Jacques telling me the sad news about the operetta, notice that I was a little expecting it but so quickly it has a strange effect! I'm counting on you to cheer him up and shower him with affection, I think he needs it. If this hell of an operetta comes to an end, we'll take care of his singing tour, and there'll be no disappointment since he's his only master! Loulou will be back soon to see what we can do, but please make sure he doesn't take this too tragically - it's not tragic, it's annoying at best. [...] I've had a crazy job"...
