[CHARMING MAGAZINES]. - Lot 192
[CHARMING MAGAZINES].
Paris magazine, 1931/1936.
Set of 57 issues of this interwar monthly charm magazine. The Revue des lectures of January 15, 1932 presented it in these less than glowing terms: "This title can be misleading. In reality, 'Paris-Magazine' is an immoral, clearly criminal journal, which should be prosecuted by the Public Prosecutor's Office. "
The magazine began publishing in September 1931, with mostly charming photos, fiction by Paul Reboux, Stéphane Corbière, Robert Dieudonné, Henri Duvernois and others, columns on cinema and theater, and often humorous illustrations by Peynet, Meyer, Jodel, Bouvard and others.
Contributing photographers included Brassaï, Germaine Krull, Gaston Paris, Bill Brandt, Kertesz and others.
This lot comprises 57 issues (out of 103 published), namely 1931, no. 4; 1932, complete minus nos. 6, 14 & 16; 1933, 1934 & 1935, complete; 1936, nos. 54, 55, 59, 60, 62 & 64; 1939, nos. 93 & 95. 1949, - short-lived post-war revival: nos. 1, 3 & 6.
Minor flaws such as small tears or horns, soiled covers, unstacking, split spines, rusty staples... which do not detract from the overall good condition of this set.
