Ludwig II 888 : - Lot 12
Ludwig II 888 : Montblanc limited series from the Mécènes collection paying tribute to King Ludwig II of Bavaria (1845-1886). A patron of the composer Richard Wagner and theatrical actor Joseph Kainz, Ludwig II was also a king who built remarkable castles that often revealed his atypical character (among them three architectural masterpieces: Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee and Neuschwanstein). Numbered edition of 888 (number 605). Body and cap in 18-carat white gold, adorned with an 18-carat yellow gold filigree trim, one of the motifs of which is in the shape of a swan's feather. Richard Wagner's first (Romantic) opera Lohengrin, which Ludwig II attended (in which a mysterious knight appears in a gondola pulled by a swan), was to have a lasting influence on the king's aesthetic ideals; the swan thus became the royal emblem. An elegant platinum-plated clasp takes the shape of a swan's graceful neck and head. The top of the cap is topped by a crown, the symbol of royalty, into which the Montblanc star is inserted. A blue ring recalls the color of the uniform worn by the king in his most famous portrait. The cap's wide ring is engraved with WWV75, the code assigned to the opera Lohengrin in the catalog of Wagner's works. It also features part of one of Ludwig II's quotations, Es ist notwendid, sich paradiese zu schaffen in its full text: It is necessary to create paradises, poetic sanctuaries, where, for a while, you can forget the terrible time in which we live. Two-tone 18-carat gold nib featuring the fairytale engraving of Neuschwanstein Castle; piston filling system. The pen is still sealed in its plastic case. In its box with its papers and over-box and white protection.
