FRANCE 18th century - Lot 68
FRANCE 18th century
Silver cachet with three pivoting sides, the mounting in the form of a stirrup framed by foliage. On one side, a coat of arms topped by a marquis's crown, on the second a monogram of interlaced letters and on the third the husband's coat of arms.
Weight: 44g - height: 4.7cm
Undoubtedly the seal of Michel Jean François BERNARD de MONTEBISE marquis de MONTEBISE, Seigneur des Tournelles, de Monteaux (1772), Baron de la Grange Menessier [1700 - 1769] (Azure a unicorn passant argent, married December 18, 1736 in Paris to Elisabeth Ursule HOUËL d'HOUELBOURG [circa 1716 - 1779] (Azure, on a fess Argent between four acorns Or, 2 in chief bendwise and 2 in base bendwise and bendwise, three ermines spots Sable).
The Houël arms are those brocaded in hearts on the quarterly.
On 1 of the quarterly, the Cordouan family arms (Or, a cross engrailed Sable, between four lions Gules, armed and langued Sable). Elisabeth de Houël's mother was Anne-Henriette de Cordouan (1667 - 1719).
The coat of arms on the right (pale of six Or and Azure) could be that of the Houël du Hamel or Houël de la Pommeraye families. For the moment, I have found no link with the Houël de Houelbourg family.
The symmetrical monogram is an interlaced B M for B[ERNARD de] M[ONTEBISE].
