RELIGION. Manuscript, 14th century; bifeuillet in-4 of parchment (30 x 29.5 cm), numbered 245 (one edge creased). On the orders of the Friars Preachers and the abbey of Saint-Victor in Paris. The document details 14 articles. "Item Car les Religieux dudit ordre qui se disent ou sentent grenez par les prieurs se peuvent plaindre aux anciens du couvent contre iceulx prieurs ou au supérieur prélat comme au provincial et du provincial au general et de luy au chappitre general [...]. Item et quil y ait usaige stille ni coustume en la chancellerie de France par lequel le Roy ait acoustumé bailler provisions et lettres en telz cas comme celuy qui soffre et en la forme que ledit demandeur les a obtenu et ne sera pas trouvé qu'ils en sont usé et mesmement en lordre des freres prescheurs et aussi soubz correction seroit ce chose de mauvais exemple et consequence [...]. It is well known among the religious of the Abbey of Saint Victor lez Paris that the guardians of the convents of the Cordeliers and the priors of the Augustinian Carmelite Carthusian Celestine friars are often revoked from their priories and offices"... In conclusion, "the doffices or benefices are revoked in accordance with the statutes of their orders [...] for their said statutes, customs and usages, of which they have always made use, are the rights which must be observed in their revocations".
