Charles-Geneviève de Beaumont, chevalier d'ÉON (1728-1810). - Lot 540
Charles-Geneviève de Beaumont, chevalier d'ÉON (1728-1810). L.A.S. (signed at head), [London] December 6, 1797, to Louis Dutens (famous Protestant scholar who took refuge in England and became its historiographer); 1page in-4. "Mlle D'Eon" invites Dutens to "come and see her during her illness which has prevented her from going out for 16 months since she was mortally wounded on 26 August 1796 in Southampton". She wants to "consult him on a work she would like to have printed non pro famâ, sed pro fame; sat sapienti amico meo dulcissimo, doctissimo & clarissimo in bona & adversa fortunâ. For a Christian friend like Mr Dutens, is not a common friend of the world, who like the shadow of a sundial, shows himself when the sun shines, & disappears at the approach of the lightest cloud"...
