DAGUERREOTYPE Le Magasin Pittoresque 1833 to 1842. Published under the direction of Edouard Charton. 10 volumes. In-4 (29 x 20 cm). First editions of the first 10 years of this famous magazine. 420 pages per volume. Le Magasin pittoresque is a popular encyclopedia which, while not neglecting important modern discoveries, is above all concerned with reviving the past. Volume 7 (seventh year), 1939, features the first mention of the daguerreotype (pp 374-376). The article runs to 3 pages, with 5 figures detailing the procedure. The 10 volumes are bound in half-leather with gilded title on the spine.
