A pioneer of digital art, initially influenced by the philosopher Max Bense, Manfred Mohr (Pforzheim, 1938) abandoned abstract expressionism for computer-generated algorithmic geometry in the mid-60s and began producing his first digital drawings. Influenced by jazz and himself a musician, he trained at the Beaux-arts in Paris, where he met Pierre Barbaud, the instigator of computer music writing. In 1968, he had a solo exhibition at Galerie Daniel Templon. Three years later, he organized the first computer art show at the Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris. Based in New York since 1980, his work has been shown at MoMA (New York and San Francisco), Centre Pompidou, Centro Cultural de la Villa (Madrid), MoCA (Los Angeles), National Museum of Modern Art (Tokyo), Muzeum Sztuki (Lodz), Leo Castelli Gallery (New York), Galerie Paul Facchetti (Paris), etc.
