The egg-shaped ewer features an Egyptian-style openwork design alternating lanceolate leaves and reeds up to a third of the way up the body. The handle, a mermaid with butterfly wings, holds a bunch of grapes in her clasped hands, a model used by numerous Parisian silversmiths since the beginning of the Empire.
