HELLÉ (André). - Lot 193
HELLÉ (André). Game of the Alphabet of War. Watercolors by André Hellé. Berger-Levrault. Nancy. [1917]. Strong cardboard box (28.9 x 33.5 x 3.3 cm), containing 84 cards (13.3 x 5.2 cm) with captioned color image, accompanied by an initial in three forms, applied on the front, bright blue glossy paper back: color lithographed cover with cards forming the word FRANCE and allied flags at the foot, description and rules of the game on the reverse. Extremely rare variation of the Alphabet of the Great War by the artist André Hellé (1871-1945), using images and captions from the album [cf. n° 192]. Each card has the capital initial at the top, the captioned illustration in the center, and the cursive and printed lower case letters at the bottom. The game contains 84 cards with several copies of each letter according to the frequency of its use in the French language. By juxtaposing the cards, you can compose words at will. To play, each player chooses a word by taking the appropriate cards and hands them to his neighbor who must guess the chosen word. Or hand them to all players and the first one to find the word wins. Well complete and near perfect condition, with slightly rubbed cover edges.
