[LIGHTING]. [MISSEL]. - Lot 19

[LIGHTING]. [MISSEL]. Complete leaf from a missal with illuminated border. Initial R historiated (5 lines high). Annunciation Tempera, gouache and gold leaf on parchment; text on two columns. France, Loire Valley, Anjou (?), circa 1460-1470. Dimensions : 262 x 362 mm Good general condition. This folio comes from an unidentified French missal and has a numbering reference (f. 263 in the manuscript, old foliotation in Roman numerals in the upper margin). The historiated initial R depicts an Annunciation introducing the Feast of the Annunciation of the Virgin in the Temporal cycle (March 25). Given the richness and care of the borders, this must have been commissioned by an important prelate or patron.
