Monumental gilt bronze chandelier with fifty-four lights, de - Lot 85
Monumental gilt bronze chandelier with fifty-four lights, decorated with foliage and flowers, the four main arms divided into three branches and joined to the shaft by rocaille clasps on which are seated winged children, one holding a tower symbolizing the Marquise de Pompadour, the openwork shaft with balusters and palm tree decorated with birds and children-Cupidon; (small accidents and missing; drilled for electricity). After the model made for the Marquise de Pompadour. Signed by Charles Crozatier (1795-1855). Louis XV style, mid 19th century. H. 130 cm, L. 145 cm (approx.) This chandelier is freely inspired by the two nine-light chandeliers made for the Marquise de Pompadour by the bronzier Jacque Caffieri, now kept in the Mazarine library in Paris. In 1833, Crozatier cast the statue of Napoleon I which adorned the Vendome column until it was replaced during the Second Empire.
