Sending information on Alain-Fournier.
Jacques Rivière sends on November 1, 1919 this "information" to a lady with the hope that it will reach her in time, and thanks her for "the service you are willing to render to the memory of my brother-in-law"...
The biobibliographical note on "Henri-Alain Fournier", born in 1886, evokes the origins of this son of schoolteachers, his youth in Épineuil-le-Fleuriel, his education, and the first literary influences exerted on him: Maeterlinck, the symbolists of Henri de Régnier's generation. Rivière gives details of his collaboration with the Paris-Journal, and his main publications in the journal, 1907-1911. "But Alain-Fournier's main preoccupation remained his novel: Le Grand Meaulnes, which he took several years to compose. He had first conceived it as a kind of ample prose poem. This is how the book gradually took the form of an adventure novel. The three officers remained on the field. For a long time it was believed that Alain-Fournier had only been wounded, and that he had been taken in by the Germans. This hope, alas, was vain. All the testimonies gathered lately confirm that he was killed on the spot. He was twenty-eight years old"...
