First edition of one of the most read novels of the 20th century, winner of the Goncourt Prize the year of its publication.
This copy, from the press service, is one of the very rare copies that the publisher printed especially for a few friends, including a special cover illustrated with a woodcut representing a skull and crossbones through whose eyes two flaming torches are coming out.
There is a very nice L.A.S. from Gaston Gallimard, one page in-8, dated May 9, 1933, folded, addressed to the addressee of the copy, giving details about this special edition and his opinion about the book : " I made yesterday, in advance, for some friends, special copies of "La Condition humaine" by André Malraux. I want you to be among the first people to know about this remarkable work... This book expresses so well all our concerns, it is, in my opinion, so significant, that apart from any commercial concern I would like you to read it immediately... You should know that "La Condition humaine" is one of the books I am most proud to have edited... "
Copy from the library of the producer, antique dealer, collector and bibliophile Évrard de Rouvre (1923-1979), bearing this letter from the author on the false title, written more than 30 years after the publication of the book
