Alain BANCQUART (born 1934). Autograph music manuscript, Omb - Lot 167
Alain BANCQUART (born 1934). Autograph music manuscript, Ombre éclatée, [1966]; 64 leaves (paginated [2] 4-66) 38 x 28 cm. Orchestral score of this cantata for mezzo-soprano and orchestra on poems by Marie-Claire Bancquart, premiered in 1966 by Anna Ringart and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France conducted by Alain Bancquart. This cantata, in three parts, is composed of three poems written by the composer's wife: I Étreinte morte " Quand je t'aime l'élasticité de ton corps "..., II Vœu " O ma prison dévaler plus bas encore "..., III Séparation " Quand le temps s'arrêtera "... The orchestral line-up includes three groups of strings, 3 flutes and a solo flute behind the stage), 3 oboes, 3 clarinets, 3 trumpets, 3 bassoons, 4 horns, 3 trombones, tuba, three percussionists, and strings divided into three groups. A diagram at the head of the manuscript indicates the arrangement of the groups of instruments, and the movements of the soloist throughout the work. The work lasts approximately 16 minutes. The manuscript is carefully written in Indian ink on 32-line tracing paper. There are some scribbled corrections. Each part has a title page and the text of the poem calligraphed by the composer. In a notice, the composer had specified: "The texts as a whole are of a perfect pessimism, or rather realise an irresistible slope towards pessimism. The passion for love at the beginning of the first poem breaks down until the separation, the absence prophesied by the last one. In the same way, the score goes from rigorous writing to a kind of decomposition towards the end of the piece. The whole of the third part is written without a bar and without a fixed tempo. The singer retreats until she disappears from the stage, and all that remains is the memory of a voice, represented by a flute in G, behind the stage...
