TRAN MINH THO (Vietnam, 20th century - Lot 210
TRAN MINH THO (Vietnam, 20th century )The girl with goldfishLacquered panel. Annotated on the back. 93 x 61 cmPanel detached, panel slightly cracked and warped, traces of wear. This lacquered panel on wood represents a young woman doing her hair in front of a mirror placed on the floor next to her beauty kit with, on her right, a jar containing exotic fish. The panel is not signed, but has a brass plate on the frame engraved Tran Minh Tho. This panel is a reproduction of a signed and dedicated painting on silk by Tran Minh Tho that was sold in 2003, as well as another that was sold in 2017 and signed Tho. On the back, a white painted indication indicates that the work was sent from Mr. Lê Thy, quai de la Marne in Saigon, to Mr. Tran Minh Tho, avenue de Saxe in Paris . It turns out that Mr. Lê Thy is the artist name of Mr. Trân Minh Thi, probably the brother of Trân Minh Tho, with whom he collaborated professionally. Indeed, Lê Thy, born in 1919 in Cholon, was a highly respected lacquer artist whose workshop was located right on the Marne in Saigon (now Ho Chih Minh City). It is therefore possible that this lacquer panel is the result of a collaboration between Lê Thy (Trân Minh Thi) and Trân Minh Tho.
