MARTIAL ARTS (A.-P.). Old Paris. 300 sheets. [Paris] : imprimerie Beillet, [1843-1866]. - 3 volumes in-folio, 462 x 322: 98 plates; 100 (of 101) plates; 101 plates. Red half-marque with corners, gilt filets , spine with ornate ribbing, gilt head, untrimmed (contemporary binding). Brilliant album of 299 (out of 300) plates by the painter and engraver A.-P. Martial (1828-1883), which are original etchings depicting the Paris of the mid-nineteenth century. The engravings are arranged by arrondissement and each series begins with two engravings; the first serves as a frontispiece and the second lists the residences of famous people who lived in the represented arrondissement. Beautiful copy with all the plates mounted on tabs and whose proofs, on laid paper, have been preserved practically at all margins. It comes from two important collections, that of Edgar Mareuse (1848-1926), historian, archaeologist, secretary of the Société de l'histoire de Paris et d'Ile-de-France and member of the Old Paris Commission, and that of doctor and bibliophile Lucien Graux (1878-1944). Some skin abrasions, blunt corners, common back rubs. The
