Wines and Spirits

Four to five cataloged auctions each year

From the most sought-after grands crus to unmissable bargains, and from recent vintages to older, rare bottles, the selection offered at Ader’s wine and spirits auctions is exceptionally broad. Bordeaux, Burgundy, Côtes-du-Rhône, the Loire Valley—all French regions are represented, not to mention international grape varieties (Argentina, Australia). The red, rosé, dry white, sweet, and dessert wines on offer come primarily from private cellars and, at times, from restaurants. In this booming market, wine and spirits auctions are setting record prices and attracting collectors, discerning enthusiasts, and merchants from around the world. In recent years, natural wines have also seen significant growth, reflecting the current demand for product traceability.

A Word from the Expert

“As a living substance, wine is not meant to be transported or moved too often. So-called ‘first-hand’ cellars—those that have remained undisturbed since their inception—are therefore the most sought-after. The goal of their original owners was to drink these bottles, not to speculate. They were therefore stored under the best possible conditions, at a constant temperature of around 12 or 13 degrees and a high humidity level of over 70% or 80%. These discerning connoisseurs could amass several thousand bottles, some of which date back several decades or even centuries! It is indeed possible to find wines dating from the 19th century, or even the very first bottlings from the late 18th century, during the time of the French Revolution. The oldest bottles available on the market are often spirits, such as very old Cognacs or Chartreuses, for which collectors have no qualms about driving bids up to €10,000 for the oldest vintages.”
