Postwar and Contemporary Art

Eight to ten cataloged sales each year

When they joined Ader in the early 2000s, David Nordmann and Xavier Dominique were committed to championing their shared passion for 1950s abstract art. Thanks to their expertise and the relationships of trust they have built with art lovers and collectors, their auctions dedicated to this period and to postwar art are now considered benchmarks in the art market. These auctions bring together a wide variety of artistic movements and geographic origins: artists of lyrical abstraction appear alongside those of non-figurative painting, not to mention those of geometric abstraction and kinetic art. The quality and distinctiveness of the lots on offer confirm Ader’s key role within this specialty. Numerous sales records have been set worldwide, particularly for foreign painters from the Parisian art scene who were active in the second half of the 20th century—for whom the auction house is now the only one to hold dedicated sales.

A Message from the Department Heads

“Between the 1950s and the 1980s, many artists settled in Paris to find an environment conducive to the development of their art. Coming from all corners of the globe—Asia, South America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East—they rubbed shoulders in the capital, exchanging ideas and influencing one another. For several years now, we have been working to bring the spirit of this artistic exchange back to the forefront. With each auction, the works of these artists are increasingly sought after by buyers, such as those by the Chinese artists Chu Teh-Chun and Zao Wou-ki, the Lebanese artist Huguette Caland, and the African-American artist Beauford Delanay...”
