Judaica

Two cataloged auctions each year

Ader is the only auction house in France to hold regular Judaica auctions. These auctions feature, among other items, religious objects, paintings with Jewish themes or by Jewish artists, prayer books, and historical artifacts... These themed auctions attract collectors and institutions from around the world, who are eager to travel to attend this internationally renowned event. Among the trends in this dynamic market are works by painters of the École de Paris and historical memorabilia... Religious artifacts are also in high demand, as are writings by rabbis and illustrated books.

A Word from the Expert

“Manuscripts related to Judaism are generating real enthusiasm in the market. Over the past decade or so, buyers have shown particular interest in rabbinic writings spanning the centuries. Rabbis have, in fact, made a habit of commenting on religious texts and expressing their thoughts in writing. These commentaries were intended for wider circulation, yet some never had the opportunity to be published. Discovering these unpublished documents—which were thought to be lost forever—would be a great privilege for me. I am thinking in particular of the writings of the Maharal of Prague, the famous 16th-century rabbi and philosopher credited with the legend of the Golem. These unpublished rabbinic manuscripts can fetch several hundred thousand euros.”
