A monumental Ngya anthropomorphic statue, a funerary commemorative sculpture, scarified on the front and back, in a beautiful ancient style, with an expressive, almost "naïve" face, could be one of the styles attributed in B. De Grunne's Bongo work to the Tonj region, or to the so-called Bussere style. The ringed neck refers to another corpus of funerary sculptures by the Bongo of South Sudan, but also by their Belanda neighbors, which seem to represent accumulations of stools and pottery one on top of the other and surmounted by a head. See : Bongo, De Grunne, Ed. Bernard De Grunne 2011 Bongo, South Sudan Heavy, hard wood, characteristic burn marks, large ochre laterite remnants at the base, very fine old erosion that has hollowed out the heart of the object, old patina from use.
