A beautiful, ancient female statuette by hand, or by a workshop, of which four works have been identified, and three published by Bernard De Grunne in 2018, like three graces. Extraordinarily callipyge, her eyes tinted black, her generous lips characteristic of ancient makonde arts, her presence imposes itself. Her patina also bears witness to her age, revealing the wood grain. She was adorned with a multitude of earrings, as evidenced by the numerous piercings; one still remains on her right ear. Authentic ancient Makonde statues are very rare, especially when compared to the large production and number of their masks. Makonde, Mozambique.
