Maurice RAVEL (1875-1937). L.A.S., Mont Pèlerin 2/3/[19]34, to his friend Lucien Garban at the publisher Durand in Paris; 2pages in-8, headed envelope Mon Repos, Mont Pèlerin s/Vevey (Switzerland) (in double-sided frame with photograph).
Pathetic letter after aphasia attack. The characters are traced with difficulty, one by one, like printers' letters; at the same time, Ravel writes to Marie Gaudin that a letter costs him "days of torture". He is now resting in a Swiss clinic, Mon Repos, at Mont-Pèlerin near Vevey.
"Dear friend, it's cerebral anemia in all its horror; for 3 days, I've been floundering". Ravel asks Garban to arrange his affairs by going to see the tax collector in Montfort l'Amaury, and gives him his instructions: "first the undeveloped properties. Then three securities (loan from the town of Montfort); a pension [from SACEM] which I have never understood [...] If you need the securities and the pension booklet, you'll find them in my room, in the dresser drawer". He is sorry for the inconvenience, and ends by sending his friends "all the affection of a desperate man"...

Unabridged. Correspondance..., n° 2473, p. 1321.
