ORDER of the LEGION of HONOR IIe RÉPUBLIQUE. Silver and enameled vermeil grand-croix plaque (90 mm) with three-part centers and sequined branches. A very rare and original model featuring an atypical portrait of Bonaparte with a circular legend surrounded by a pearled circle; also note the unusual two-tone ribbon at the bottom of the plate. A similar plate was in the collection of the American Numismatic Society, sold in London on May 24-25, 2006 (no. 521). On the reverse, two hallmarks including boar's head on the movable pin. Slight lack of red enamel on the ribbon, otherwise superb.
