First edition of Émile Zola’s famous manifesto addressed to President Félix Faure. (Creases, missing pages, restorations, foxing). Émile Zola joined the Dreyfusards when Ferdinand Walsin Esterhazy was acquitted. The impact of this letter, published in the daily newspaper *L’Aurore* and in which Zola calls upon Félix Faure as a witness, was immense. He accuses and denounces the conspiracy orchestrated by the army. His action gave rise to the figure of the “committed intellectual.” Although this bold move cost the writer two trials and exile, it made the march toward justice inevitable. Dreyfus, finally exonerated in 1906, regained his honor and his distinctions, completing his military career with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
