An ancient male anthropomorphic statuette of a very rare representation, its face and head are in a very fine old classical style with large, very wide, open eyebrow arches, the face scarified, but the shape of its body seems to indicate that it could be the representation of a dwarf with a hunchbacked back as well as a hump at the front, a figure that could be considered an intercessor with the spirit world. Ashanti or Anyi, Ghana Wood, remains of kaolin, visible chips (old breaks), cracks and wear from use, an old collection number (87L183B) inscribed on the back of one leg, and very fine patina from use. Height: 31.5cm Provenance: Alice and Henri Dupont Collection, Lille, acquired c. 1960 Passed on by descent
