(Three corners restored, small hole restored on the right edge - 0.5 x 0.5 cm). 28 x 19 cm Provenance: From an album with numerous engravings featuring a printed bookplate of Johan Conrad con Reinach 1696, presumably Johan Konrad von Reinach-Hirtzbach (1657 - 1737) Prince-Bishop of Basel. The album also bears an earlier handwritten date: "anno 1616, 3 July / n° 211". Bibliography: D. Cordellier, "Jean Cousin père et Jean Cousin fils : compléments à leurs œuvres dessinés" in Peindre à Paris aux XVe-XVIe siècle, Silvana Editoriale, 2024, quoted p. 298, note 47 "In the same album was a drawing of a Charité Romaine, using the same technique, on the same paper and of very similar workmanship". The paper follows exactly the same pontuseaux and vergeures as the Jupiter and Sémélé, and both drawings were probably drawn on paper of identical manufacture. They also come from the same album.
