Miniature on paper depicting a young woman seated at a table, China, 19th - 20th century The young woman in traditional dress, leaning against a table, holds in her left hand a sheet of paper on which she is about to paint, while with her right hand she is soaking her brush on an ink stone, surrounded by a suiteki (dropper) and a cylindrical incense stick holder. The miniature is encircled by a black frame with a thin band of gilded grecians, glued to a paper with a fine black European-style scroll and foliage decoration. Sight size: 23 x 21 cm; image size: 10.5 x 8.5 cm This work, inspired by Western miniaturists, was probably produced in Canton for export to Europe.
