VAN DONGEN (Kees) - MARGUERITE (Victor). La Garçonne. Paris: Ernest Flammarion, [1925]. - In-4, 250x195: (6 ff. first 2 blank), 386 pp. (3 ff. last 2 blank), 28 plates, illustrated cover. Paperback, lined cover. Edition of 778 copies, illustrated with 28 color illustrations by Kees VAN DONGEN (1877-1968). This novel, a veritable feminist pamphlet, first appeared in 1922. It tells the story of a free-spirited young woman who, a few years after the war, multiplies her conquests, both male and female. The book was deemed so offensive that the author's Légion d'Honneur was withdrawn. However, this did not prevent the novel from enjoying enormous success. It was also adapted for stage and screen. One of 636 copies on Arches paper. A very well preserved paperback copy, largely uncut.
