WAR OF 1870. 26 L.A. or L.A.S., to or from Léopold ("Paul") Sauzède, mostly from his wife Julia, 1870-1872; more than 140 pages in-8.

Correspondence mostly addressed to Léopold Sauzède, born in 1830 in Quillan (Aude), deputy public prosecutor in Algiers, volunteer in the 108th line regiment. His wife followed him to France, living in Chambéry with the wife of M. de Cléry, general counsel in Algiers and volunteer in the same regiment. His letters express his fears, his tenderness, his faith, his emotion at knowing that he was wounded, his pride at knowing that he had been decorated... General Louis Maurandy writes to Léopold in a friendly manner, evoking his taking command of the 2nd division of the 19th corps of the 2nd army, and the pleasure he promises himself "by asking you to accept one of the old crosses that I carried in the Crimea and elsewhere" (December 21, 1870)... It is a question of the battle of Champigny, of General Trochu, of the armistice and of the Parliament in Bordeaux, but also of movements in the judiciary, of the hope of a promotion and of their return to Algeria...
