Guillaume APOLLINAIRE. Autograph poem, Pleasures; 1 page small in-4 on wrapping paper.

Working manuscript of this 17-line poem written in 1917, and which concludes the collection Le Guetteur mélancolique (1952; Œuvres poétiques, Pléiade, p. 603).
Untitled in the collection, the poem is here entitled Plaisirs. The first three quatrains conform to the published text, except for the beginning of the 12th verse where "Celui" is crossed out and replaced by "L'Amour". The last quatrain and the final monostic are crossed out on the manuscript, with variations on the 16th verse: "night by day" being corrected by overwriting to "O night O day". The last verse ("To live and die O better O worse" in the edition) also has variants; Apollinaire had written: "To love to die the best the worst", then corrected :
"To love to die O better O worse". "A notebook of old sketchesFull of portraits of young womenAn
