MASCAGNI Pietro (1863-1945).
L.A.S. "P. Mascagni", Naples 27 February 1919, to his beloved Peppino; 2 pages infol. (slight slits on one edge);
in Italian.

Beautiful letter. He explains the reasons for his silence: his wife had been bedridden for more than five weeks, for a violent attack of appendicitis, then a serious pericolitis, and he was really afraid of losing her. Fortunately he had a friend impresario at the San Carlo who gave him a lot of freedom; he conducted few performances, including his Lodoletta, with the tenor Beniamino GIGLI: the success was very great, and culminated in triumph at the 5th and 6th performances. He prepared Isabeau, which he will give the next day. Then he talks at length about a very important project that has to be proposed to him, probably a project for the Americas, which for the moment obliges him to postpone any other engagement?
